PRESIDENT PETER'S MESSAGE
(29.06.09)
At Changeover last year I said that it wasn’t going to be “my year”, but rather “our year”.

“Our” includes all members of the Club and all those friends and associates in our community of Epping whom we involve in our projects and who help us to carry them out.

To claim it all as my own would belittle the efforts of everyone else who has played a part in ensuring the ongoing contribution of The Rotary Club of Epping to our community….. after all, a Rotary Club doesn’t, and shouldn’t, can’t, exist on the basis of one person alone.

As we come to our last meeting for the Rotary year and the end of my term as President, I would like to thank all members for their support and efforts during this year while we have tried to “Make Dreams Real”.

     In Rotary, you can....

Why Join Rotary?

Friendship
In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic needs; the need for friends and fellowship.

Business Development
One of the original reasons for Rotary’s beginning was everyone needs to network. Rotary consists of a cross section of every business community and its members come from all walks of life. Rotarians help one another and others.

Leadership Development
Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people. Serving in Rotary positions is like a college education in leadership. Learning how to motivate, influence and lead leaders.

Citizenship in the Community
Membership in a Rotary Club makes one a better community citizen. The average Rotary Club consists of the most active citizens of any community.

"HUMANITY IN MOTION" Magazine arrives in Epping

Stop Press :  Local Paper reports on Humanity in Motion

Epping Rotarians will commence distributing the new "Humanity in Motion" magazine in the next few weeks to businessess in the Epping area. The magazine showcases what Rotary is and what Rotarians do.

Rotary Clubs in District 9680, which extends from Sydney Harbour to the Central Coast and from the Northern Beaches to the Hills, are involved in a vast amount of humanitarian work and this magazine highlights some of these stories.

Local projects such as the Rotary Club of Epping's "War on Graffiti" (see page 42) and the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness program (RYDA) along with many and varied international projects make for interesting and informative reading.

The magazine is the brainchild of D9680 District Governor Tony Castley, himself a member of Epping Rotary Club.

"We hope you find these stories interesting and informative...You will find Rotarians are ordinary people devoted to their families and their work, while at the same time enjoying the knowledge that they are doing something individually and collectively to make a better World"

RYLA Trains our Future Leaders

In partnership with North Epping Bendigo Bank, Epping Rotary recently arranged for two candidates to attend the "Rotary Youth Leadership Awards". RYLA, as it is known, is a one week leadership training seminar for young adults 18 -26 years held at Vision Valley around the second week in January of each year.  The cost of the program is around $700 and this year was funded through a generous grant received from Bendigo Bank at North Epping as part of their Community Grants programme.

MOCK JOB INTERVIEWS AT EPPING BOYS
On 25 and 27 November Epping Rotarians and community partners joined together to help year 10 students prepare for the world of work. About 120 students were subjected to mock job interviews by industry personnel. This built on Career Education lessons during which students prepared resumes, job applications and practiced interview skills. The Mock interview days gave them a chance to apply the skills they have learned in a simulated workplace environment.
