Club BBQ

BBQ Business

Phil Davis briefed us on the up-coming Cumberland State Forest program on October 12th and it certainly looks like we’re in for a big day. We’ll now be running three shifts of six people, the first being 8:ooam to 11:30am, then 11:00am to 2:00pm and finishing with a shift from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Phil would like all aprons back nicely washed and ironed by Wednesday October 8th (read this before you leave for Rotary!) and those kind Rotarians who’ve been storing sausages should make arrangements to get them to the site on Sunday morning. This one will really test us but Phil’s convinced that with many a willing hand on deck we can easily overcome any hurdles thrown in our path. It’s a big day and if you missed seeing the list just give Phil a call on 9651 3492.

Past BBQ news:

The weather was certainly on our side as we went through the process of serving up our traditional culinary extravaganza at the “Garden of Secrets” open days over the past two weekends. Although final figures are not yet available, the estimate is that something like 6,000 people attended throughout the four days and the result was a good one for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. Our own conservative estimate of food consumed is in the vicinity of 2,000 delicious and healthy low-fat sausage sandwiches and at $2.50 a go, it should bring a fair few new Guide Dogs into action. The weekends also gave us a great opportunity to showcase our talents and increase our level of exposure within our own community. The efforts of one and all over both weekends have been truly appreciated by Marshall- in-Chief Phil Davis and it was an interesting experience to say the least.  Thanks to the efforts of willing club members and partners, we always had the stocking/cooking/serving processes under control and that made the whole operation move like a well-oiled Swiss watch. Terry O’Mara worked hard getting the Rotary message across to a large number of visitors and more than one likely candidate for membership was unearthed. Phil will thank all volunteers personally but he wants his genuine and heartfelt appreciation down in print. With that experience behind us, we should now be operating well enough to face whatever challenge comes our way. Our next big challenge is the Cumberland State Forest Fair on Sunday October 12th and that’ll be a big one. It will be a full day’s effort for a dedicated crew so Phil will be following up on that one pretty quickly.
