What is Rotary?

A Rotarian is a person who:

  • Digs wells from which they will never drink
  • Vaccinates children they will never meet
  • Restores eyesight for those they will never see
  • Builds houses they will never live in
  • Educates children they will never know
  • Plants trees they will never sit under
  • Feeds hungry people, regardless of colour, race or politics and
  • Knows real happiness

Rotary is a world-wide fellowship of business and professional adults who accept the ideal of service as a basis for success and happiness in business and community life.

What Happens at a Meeting?

We gather each Thursday morning at 6:30 for 6.55am at the Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club, East Esplanade, Manly.

Before and after meetings, we have ‘fellowship’ and catch up with each other for those who wish to arrive early 6:30 or stay on after the meeting.

The Chairman opens the meeting at 7:00am and welcomes Club members, visiting Rotarians and guests.  We often invite a guest speaker who presents their topic of interest. Guests may be any person, a business or government representative, director of one of the charitable organisations to which the Club contributes, a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, Rotary Exchange professional from another nation, or a community leader. There is opportunity to ask questions of the guest speaker on completion of their presentation.

During the meeting, we while eating our breakfast, Directors and members are given the opportunity to address the Club with club business.

We adjourn promptly at 8:00am although there may be some members seek leave to go to their place of business at 7:50 to catch the ferry to the city.

Some meetings do not have a guest speaker and these meeting are usually assemblies, when all member may discuss points of interest for the club or directors give reports.

At each meeting, you contribute $20 to cover the cost of the meal.
