
This program is offered to Year 11 Students attending both Government and Private High Schools in the Engadine area. The program is delivered to the High Schools over 1 day with a total of 6 sessions, which are conducted in classrooms at the school and timed to coincide with the normal school periods.
The sessions of a typical program include:
1. Keeping your L's & P's -
This session is conducted by the local Police Highway Patrol and covers
1. Risk taking behaviour
2. Speed
3. Legal Consequences
This session also includes a static demonstration of a Highway Patrol Car
2. New Driver Survival
This session is usually conducted by experienced Teachers from the Trent
Driving School. It covers :-
1. Traffic Hints &Tips
2. Stopping time and the reflex tester,
as the main focus
3. Picking up the pieces
Conducted by Paramedic Staff of the NSW Ambulance service it covers the subject of
" Why crashes happen and driver attitude "
4. Being fit to drive
Presented by members of the NSW Community Health Department, this session discusses
the effects of alcohol and drugs on decision making , fine-motor skills and risk taking. In this
session participants are introduced to "Beer Goggles" to enable them to experience the
effect of being under the influence.
5. Buying a safe used car
Presented by members of the NRMA Motoring and Services Department, students are given
an insight to the challenges facing a buyer of a used motor vehicle,highlighting the things that
may not be what they are actually like. They provide helpful hints on the major items to
critically examine.
6. Accident Survivor
Conducted by the Brain Injury Association of NSW , their members discuss with all students,
the results of accidents, the future of Victims and the impacts on families.
It should be noted that as the program depends on the availability of the Volunteer presenters, some minor variations to the program may be required on any particular day.
