George has been a member of the Rotary Club of St Ives for 21 years. He served twice as Community Service Director and accepted a SMH Community Service Award on behalf of his club. He also served as Club Service Director and President. Then, as Public Relations Officer, St Ives Rotary won the District Golden Quill Award. He is a Paul Harris Fellow.
At the District level, George was Chairman of PRIME 88 which received the QEII Award for Service to Youth. He designed and presented training programs for Interact, Rotaract, RYTS and RYPEN. He served as District Chairman of Membership Growth and Retention for two years and
Vocational Excellence Chairman also for two years. His most recent District position was that of Assistant Governor. He is a director on the Board of RYDA Australia. For the past seven years he has been involved with the selection and sponsorship of the District Apprenticeship Awards.
He began his career as a science teacher progressing to Head Teacher Science at North Sydney Boys High. Holds a Dip Tech (Industrial Chemistry) from NSWIT, a BSc from UTS and a MEd (Admin) from UNSW. He worked for many years as Head of the Regional Training and Development Unit for the Department of Education. In 2000 George was recognised for his contribution to the training profession by being made an FAITD.
In a break from education in 1989, George established his own business to develop and manufacture chemicals for water and air treatment. He has also written three international best selling books on technology.
For the past fourteen years George has been Chief Executive Officer of Macquarie Community College. It is now the largest and most awarded community college in NSW and a major contributor to the local community. The college has undertaken a number of significant joint ventures with Rotary Clubs, including the building of the Lifeline Centre at Gordon and the restoration of the Wildflower Garden at St Ives. As an active member of the Ryde Business Forum, George has held the position of President for two years.
George is married to Cathie, a Registered Nurse. They have two daughters and a son. His hobbies include music, reading, philately, movies, deep sea fishing and golf. In January 2007 he was awarded the Order of Australia for services to Adult Education and the Community of Ryde.
