District 9750 was very well represented by two local teams at the recent National MUNA hosted by the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise. Sydney Technical High School – Chris Janssen, Ben Reynolds and Jonathan Gaymer represented Brazil while Caringbah High School’s Paige Burton, Kaitlin Lake and Timothy Leavold represented Russia.
The competition was held over the weekend of the 19th-21st August in the House of Representatives Chamber of Old Parliament House in Canberra.
Teams were required to research 13 topics of which six resolutions were debated over the weekend. These included topics such as human rights and extreme poverty, protection of global climate for present and future generations, the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and an international strategy for disaster reduction.
The standard of debating from all students was very high and we are extremely proud to be able to congratulate Caringbah High School for taking out 1st place.
The weekend was not only about debating. The students all participated in a tour of the ANU Campus on the Friday afternoon and a formal dinner held at Bruce Hall on Saturday night.
Friendships were formed and a lot of fun was had by all. Congratulations should be extended to all students who participated.
