David has been a member of the Rotary Club of Sydney CBD for 12 years
and has been involved in all aspects of the Club’s activities during
this period. He was the President in 1999/2000 and was recognised for
his contributions to the Club and the community through a Paul Harris
Fellow award. At a District level, David has been an Assistant Governor
in 2006/7 and in 2007/8 with responsibility for supporting clubs based
in the inner city areas of Sydney to the west and south. In 2008/9,
David joined the District Rotary Foundation Committee as Sub Committee
Chairman for Polio Plus and was the 2008 District Conference Chairman.
He has a BSc degree in physics and maths from London University and an
MSc in Business Studies from the London Business School. He also
successfully completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors
Company Directors Course. David’s career included 10 years working for
Xerox in the UK and Australia and 22 years working for Telstra in
various marketing and general management positions. Prior to retirement
in 2005, David was the CEO of a Telstra subsidiary called Telstra
e-Business Services Pty Ltd which provided ecommerce services to a wide
cross section of large and small businesses.
Now, David is the Chairman of Spinal Cord Injuries Australia which aims
to improve the lives of those unfortunate people who have suffered
traumatic spinal cord injuries. For the last five years, he was on the
Executive Committee of the Katoke Trust, a charitable organisation that
provides assistance to disadvantaged people in Tanzania. David is a
volunteer guide at the Australian National Maritime Museum and the
Australian Museum.
David is married to Suzanne Campbell who is a successful business
executive and an experienced Rotarian in her own right. Suzanne has
been a member of the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove for 12 years, is a Past
President and is now the District Rotary Foundation Chair. They live in
Paddington with Suzanne’s 23 year old niece Elisabeth who was a past
RYLA graduate. David has two sons Nick and Alex aged 30 and 26.
