Avenues of Service

CLUB SERVICE The club provides an environment for growth of its members, it is well run and oversees all the avenues of service.  A board of management is made up by eight members and is chaired by the President.  A club bulletin is published fortnightly to communicate and provide information to each and every member about Rotary.  The club is a member of the Rotary District 9510 and the club participates in District and International activities.  Public Relations matters of the club are handled by members of the club.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE
The main program of this service is the annual Riverland and Mallee Rotary Clubs / 5RM Citizen of the Year Dinner where over 200 people attend to witness an award being given to a Riverland citizen in recognition of their services to the Riverland community.  We also have the Riverland & Mallee Vocational Awards which recognises young peoples achievements through Apprenticeships and traineeships that continue to be the major form of vocational training in Australia, and it is our privilege through the Rotary Club of Berri to be able to support and encourage young people starting off on their lifelong career paths  We encourage high standards of our members in their careers and business and have guest speakers talking about this theme at times.

INTERNATIONAL
Many of the club’s members have travelled at their own cost to build community buildings in the less developed countries of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.  Our members serve on District Committees of an International nature,  RAWCS committee providing many international services to those not as fortunate as ourselves. We have also sent supplies to a foreign aid post in the Solomon Islands.  On a major scale, Rotary International had undertaken to rid the world of polio, we are ahead of schedule and our club has completed its set target of $5,000 which will alone immunize some 20,000 children.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Rotary Club of Berri is well known for its great support of various local projects.  It has built a recreation park of some 3 acres in Manifold Crescent, Berri, giving the local children a safe park and recreation area, and landscaped the Water Tower Lookout project.  It gives donations to many local charities throughout the year, supports The Australian Rotary Health Research Fund providing services to the medical field.  It annually supports many groups through the use of its catering facilities in the community.  It coordinates town working bees throughout the year.

YOUTH SERVICES
Rotary is committed to the development of youth. Over the years our club has promoted international understanding by its involvement in sending school students overseas for a year through a project of long-term exchange.  Students have been hosted from Japan, Brazil, USA, Netherlands, Sweden, and Indonesia, to name just a few.  Annually we sent young people to Leadership Development studies on such programs as Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN), Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), the National Youth Science Forum, The Santos Science Experience .  Through these programs, youth develop their skills to manage their future confidently and competently.
