CALPERUM STATION PROJECT

Report

Rotary Calperum Station Working Party

25 to 28 August 2014

The Rotary Calperum Station Working Party from 25 to 28 August 2014 had 7 on the team as follows:

Deidre Hughes, RC of Encounter Bay (Team Leader)

Bob Carmichael, RC of Brownhill Creek

Brian Rodan, RC of Encounter Bay

Sue Hector, RC of Magill Sunrise and Paul Hector

Shirley Roberts, RC of Magill Sunrise and Kevin Roberts

The team completed one new plantation site installing the irrigation hoses and drippers, making and installing 97 kangaroo tree guards and planting 97 native trees.

The team then planted another 78 native trees as replacements on another earlier plantation site.

Total trees planted therefore amounted to 175.

There was great fellowship and networking within the team and it was a most positive and interesting experience for all 7 members.

Grant Whiteman, Manager, Calperum Station and his team were also most welcoming and supportive of this Rotary working party.  In particular, Rhiannon and Meg escorted the team on a most informative tour of the Calperum wetlands and floodplains in the vicinity of the Calperum Homestead.  This assisted greatly in our understanding of the local environment and was an important part of the Calperum experience.

Following the success of this project, the RC of Encounter Bay and RC of Brownhill Creek have booked 2 more working parties as follows:

                  18 to 21 May 2015

                  17 to 20 August 2015

The Rotary Club of Encounter Bay has been involved since 2011 in the revegetation project at Calperum Station. The photos in this section were taken by Deidre Hughes and Brian Rodan in August 2014.
