The Baclold City (Philippines) Schools Project

The Rotary Club of Maroubra initiated the Philippines RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service) project and has worked with partner club in the Philippines, Rotary Club of Bacolod to secure district grants over several years. The Baclold City Schools Project is providing 200 meals daily for starving, poor children living on a rubbish tip in the Philippines. This has lifted school attendance to virtually 100%. Daily meals are supplied to 200 children across 3 primary schools with Rotarians at the Rotary Club of Bacolod West and the school staff volunteering their time ensuring that all funds raised are applied to the purchase of food. Apart from providing nutrition to children from very poor families, the Principal at the Paglaum Village Elementary School has noted a lift in the students’ academic performance and a reduction in the truancy rate from 2.54% last year to 0.04% this year.
