Donations in Kind

Donations In Kind (DIK) is the program whereby Rotarians and Rotary Clubs source surplus goods and products within Australia that have no further use here. However, these goods are often invaluable to those in needy countries and/or can be used to support Rotary projects in developing countries

District 9520 is part of the RAWCS Central Region and participates in DIK in conjunction with District 9500. A central co-ordination committee stores, packs and dispatches the goods to needy countries.  DIK does not initiate, but helps coordinate projects between clubs

There is a DIK storage warehouse located at Salisbury which is a clearing-house for serviceable equipment.

Equipment
DIK is always looking for equipment. Typically the equipment that is most needed are items for schools and hospitals/medical centres. Please keep a lookout for such items:

  • Educational equipment, eg. school desks and chairs and other educational item, etc.
  • Health related items, hospital equipment, beds, bedside tables, instruments, linen, etc.

All equipment must be serviceable. Check with the Committee regarding the suitability of equipment before sending it to the warehouse.

As the warehouse is not open all the time also please check for an appropriate time to deliver equipment.

Please note that the donating club is responsible for arranging the transport to the warehouse.

Volunteers
DIK hold regular working bees to check and sort the donated equipment and to load the containers ready for shipment. Please consider this as a club project and come down on a working bee for a day, at weekends. Barbecue facilities are available at the warehouse.

Funding
For clubs wishing to participate, it is important to note that funding is not readily available for the transport of goods.  Clubs should include the cost of transport in their budgets or may wish to consider making a donation to enable other clubs equipment to be shipped.

Please contact the Coordinator of the DIK warehouse, David Cockshell from Gawler Light (9500), for more information or to arrange a date for a club working bee.
