The BIG Rotary wheel at Thorndon Park

This was a project conceived
in 2003 by Pat Ruotola who said

Let’s build a BIG Rotary Wheel”

And he did!
with help by his team.

Planning began in 2003,
construction started in 2004.

The project was finished in October 2005.

It is 18 metre diameter brick paved Rotary Wheel
with alternating table sets
and double BBQ's
on the spokes.

The cost of the project has been
greatly assisted by the
generosity of the
Campbelltown
City Council, who contributed some labour and
materials.

The inscription reads:

“This barbecue area, in the
shape of a Rotary Wheel, was
created by the Rotary Club of
 Campbelltown with the
 assistance of the City of
Campbelltown, as a
service to the community
 to celebrate the centenary
 of Rotary International

Rotary was founded in Chicago
in 1905, and the Rotary Club
 of Campbelltown has served
 this community since its
 inception in 1966.
October 23, 2005

On the day of the official
opening it RAINED and
the wind BLEW.

Mayor Steve Woodcock
accepted the Wheel on
behalf of the Community
from Project Manager
Pat Ruotola.
