2020 Riverland & Mallee Vocational Awards winners announced

The 2020 Riverland & Mallee Vocational Awards now in its 38th year, held at the Berri Hotel on Friday night with just 200 attending saw Madison Lailey and Jakob Johinke-Milich awarded joint winners of the 2020 Apprentice of the Year.

Madison is completing a Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery and is employed as an Apprentice Chef at the Barmera Hotel Motel. Madison impressed judges with his passion and commitment to his career pathway. His employer describes Madison as having exceptional attention to detail and high standards.

Jakob is completing a Certificate 3 in Engineering and is employed as an Apprentice Fitter and Turner at TWG Loxton. Jakob impressed judges with his vocational knowledge and commitment to continuous improvement. His employer describes Jakob as an invaluable employee who is dependable and prides himself on quality work, whilst supporting his workmates to improve their skills also.

Madison and Jakob follow in the footsteps of many young talented Apprentices as the 2020 Riverland & Mallee Apprentices of the Year.

  • Trainee of the Year, Bianca Shephard,
  • School based Trainee of the Year, Emily Taylor of Waikerie High School,
  • School based Apprentice of the Year, Kimberley Rapson of Glossop High School,
  • School based VET Student of the Year, Parker Steinert of Waikerie High School.

The successful night, largely due to the high caliber of finalists, genuine support of sponsors and commitment by employers to the awards, is considered to be the largest of its kind in regional Australia and is hosted by the Rotary Club of Berri.
