Margaret Northcote & Mary Vincent    Published: Wednesday, April 08, 2015

On the evening of 18th March 2015 Past President Jan Tsoutouras PHF, passed away peacefully after a battle with motor neurone disease lasting less than a year. We salute the courageous way in which she battled this most debilitating disease, never loosing her dignity, nor her sense of style. We will always miss you Jan.

Jan's last visit
The three female presidents:
Margaret in 2006-7,
Jan in 2011-12 & Mary Vincent to be in 2017.
Jan joined Rotary in 1997.
She served the club as photographer then
Director of :  International Service

Fellowship &
Vocational Service.
In 2014 she was on the District Public Relations cttee.

Jan was president in 2011-12:

On our Birthday that year Japanese exchange student Fumi Ngata cut the cake with our three charter members, Reg, Eric & Barry.

Reporting to the club are. at left, the RYLA awardees, then the National Youth Science students. How's that for a height difference!
Some highlights of Jan’s years president are: a donation of $25,000 to the royal Blind Society to train a Guide Dog; the induction of 8 new members, 3 left with one became an MP but four are still with us; the shed roof had to be repaired but we still managed to raise around $65,000, $21,000 for Carnevale, and $11,000.00 from the Art Show;  The International Committee donated $10,000 to the New Hope Orphanage in Cambodia for their egg farming project – they are making a living from selling those eggs.

Jan's life was her family.  It was great when they could come to a Rotary event.

For the 2013 Childrens Christmas party Jan had the largest contingent: Her children Chris, Anthea & Con with those very special
grandchildren.

Jan worked at her classification Electrical Goods Retailing until the last week of her life.

Jan really enjoyed the FUN in Rotary.

Here she is accepting her Paul Harris (PHF) award dressed as a hippie.
(That was the dress code for that birthday in 2005.)

Each Melbourne Cup night Jan won an award for elegance. This one was on 5 Nov 2013.

The Mock wedding in 2007:  Jan was assigned the role of groomsman Bruce, along with Archie and best man Wayne.

We three sure were good mates to the groom Justa Biggin on that evening.

On that first CROE, in 2004, the people in Jan's car came dressed as the Priscillas!

For a memorable dinner in a dugout at Cooper Peedy, Jan was a great sergeant.

Much more could be said about our dear friend, especially her wicked sense of humour.  She gave so much to Rotary.
President Frank's parting words;  "Jan will always be in our hearts.  She was a strong person through and through, in character, personality and presence.  Some of us are here because somehow we have been touched by Jan.  We are all very lucky to have had Jan in our lives."
