Rotary Maubara Dental Project East Timor

Project Needs:

Individual, Club and Corporate Sponsorship




To improve access to preventive based dental care for school children and adults in rural regions of East Timor, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies, through providing:

  • A dental screening, treatment and education program to school children in Maubara
  • Dental treatment to local people with a preventive and education focus.
  • Out reach dental care including school based preventive care to remote villages in the district, and to other locations as guided by our local partners and in cooperation with the Ministry of Health.
  • Onsite training of local health staff in simple emergency dental care.
  • Education and training programs for non-health staff eg: school teachers, as requested by the Ministry of Health.

Time frame for project:  

Established in 2003, and is ongoing.

Project dental workforce:

An East Timorese Dental Nurse is now employed full time in the project. We also contribute 50% of the driver salary. Each year there are visits of 3-4 dental volunteer teams, with at least one to twp dentists per team, to provide extra hands, and ongoing skills support for staff on the ground.
