PRESIDENT GRAHAM'S MESSAGE
(8.2.2010)
This week we will have the opportunity to hear from some of the young people that Epping Rotary has supported to attend youth programs this year. We are familiar with Youth Exchange where we have both inbound and outbound students, but we have also sent representatives to the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) , Rotary Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) and supported a participant to the Model United Nations in Geneva. We will also be joined on Monday night by Sharyn Hubert, Manager of the Epping North Bendigo Bank who provided funding to the club for our youth programs under the Bendigo Bank Community Funding initiative.

Friendship
In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic needs; the need for friends and fellowship.

Business Development
One of the original reasons for Rotary’s beginning was everyone needs to network. Rotary consists of a cross section of every business community and its members come from all walks of life. Rotarians help one another and others.

Leadership Development
Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people. Serving in Rotary positions is like a college education in leadership. Learning how to motivate, influence and lead leaders.

Citizenship in the Community
Membership in a Rotary Club makes one a better community citizen. The average Rotary Club consists of the most active citizens of any community.

Local Rotarians provide ShelterBox assistance to Haiti appeal

Rotary clubs are uniting to contribute life-saving ShelterBoxes to the relief program that is assisting victims who were struck by the recent Haiti earthquake..

ShelterBoxes are emergency shelter and survival kits containing survival equipment to support ten people. Each ShelterBox contains a tent, blankets, water purification and cooking equipment, basic tools and much more. The kits not only contain items that will assist those in the Haiti ravaged areas to survive in the short term, but to begin to rebuild their lives.

“Our colleagues in the Southern United States of America, Mexico, the West Indies and South America have already moved to support the victims and their families. Our efforts will be by way of contribution through the Rotary ShelterBox program,” said Epping Rotary President Graham Stevens.

“Epping Rotary has raised funds to purchase 4 shelter boxes. In the last three months Rotary Clubs in our District have purchased 43 ShelterBoxes to be ready to support such a tragedy as this. Not only will we donate these ShelterBoxes but we are taking donations to be able to provide more boxes in the coming days,”.

People wishing to offer their support can make a donation to the Shelterbox program. Each ShelterBox costs $1200 Australian dollars. Donations can be made through Epping Rotary Club at PO Box 77 Epping 1710. Cheques should be in favour of the Rotary Shelter Box appeal
