January 2009 | Rotary Awareness Month
BREAKING NEWS Telephone Enquiries 1300 4 ROTARY
District Governor's New Year Message

Christmas and New Year have come and gone for another year, but I do hope you all had a happy and restful time!

Sandra and I spent Christmas at our home in North Avoca with my family which was great, and New Year with a group of Rotary friends with whom we have been sharing New Years for 15 years straight now and every year at a different location. This year was in Mudgee! - we had great time there.

Between Christmas and New Year we had the pleasure of an unexpected, brief two day visit from a District Governor from Norway. DG Magne Sveen from District 2300 in Norway, generously accompanied one of our exchange students on her return flight from Norway to Australia after she was advised to return home due to some medical complications. Magne was skiing in the mountains with his family when he was called to make the flight to Australia on Christmas morning which took 48 hours with stopovers! Now that’s really “Service about Self“! He arrived understandably rather exhausted however after a couple of days in North Avoca in the sun and surf, we sent him back well rested to his home where it was minus five degrees!

January is ROTARY AWARENESS MONTH, and there is no better way we can make the public aware of Rotary than to showcase what we do!  And we have two very special opportunities coming up to do this in the form of our District Magazine and our Conference.

Sandra and I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Yours in Rotary
