From the President's Desk

Good Afternoon E-Club Members and Friends of Rotary,

Welcome back, I hope your Christmas, New Years and Australia Day Celebrations went well and you are now enthusiastic about this fresh new year and the good things we can make happen as volunteers.

Firstly, I would really like to thank Brooke McGowan-Grills for bringing us her presentation on Type 1 Diabetes. Although she was a little nervous I feel her personal experiences gave us a greater insight into what she has to continually endure, although I do think she toned it down a tad. I could not imagine trying to tell a six year old that she will need to change her life to include 54 000 finger pricks by the time she is 22 years of age. I believe we had a record amount of Members join the Forum last week and also great questions to Brooke afterward. Fantastic..I was so impressed.

Secondly, this week's Forum is also connected to the Medical Field with a Doctor speaking to us on Organ Tissue Donation. It would be great to see Members that haven't logged on before giving it a go. Brooke downloaded the software and was online in the 15mins prior to her presentation. It is not difficult and if you have problems call Chris on his mobile (0412 614260) while you are trying, he'll walk you through it. TONIGHT: Tuesday 29/01/2013 at 8pm Qld. time.

We won't be able to make tonight's Forum unfortunately as we will be going to the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Dinner. We have sponsored three people; Rhys a member of our e-Club, Adam a soldier returned recently from Afghanistan and Peter a young man recommended to us by a prospective new member. It will be an awesome night; it will be our first although we did go to the Back to RYLA dinner last year where we had heaps of laughs.

Please keep an eye out for snippets of news on our Facebook Page and also please add your own. Let us know what you are doing in your area in the way of volunteering or helping your community, photos are always good as they paint an awesome picture for us.

Yours in Rotary,

Rick Jewson
