News - Flying Doctor and e-Club join forces

Formal Service Agreement Signed

Last Tuesday members were informed by our Service Director Ian Yarker, the e-Club and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Queensland had signed a five year formal agreement to provide support to rural communities through our Service Safare program.

Rotarians are now invited to join the Rotary e-Club undertake service activities in partnership with the RFDS.  

The program involves attending the Birdsville Races on a yearly basis to feed the masses and enjoy ourselves; supporting the RFDS through subsidy and fund raising activities; supporting RFDS field excursions to remote locations; undertaking community projects highlighted by the RFDS and assisting refurbishment of RFDS & rural community property.

YEP and other Youth Program participants will be given the opportunity by the Rotary e-Club to attend and rural youth will be availed the opportunity to undertake Rotary youth programs from time to time.

District Governors and Rotary Clubs in areas of projects will be contacted in the first instance byIan Yarker (Safare Service Director) and formally advised of the project within their area and invited to participate. Projects over the next 12 months include Birdsville Races (fund raising), Mount Isa RFDS home refurbishments (5-7 homes and we can billet in a home), Charleville Base refurbishment and the Rockhampton building program.

Specific dates will not be known until a site inspection carried out in July 13.

Work is progressing on having the e-Club's off road mobile kitchen attend remote locations to support Rotarian's meals while onsite. Registered participants are covered by Rotary Insurance.

Main trades needed appear to be General hands, Painters, Concreters, Carpet layers, Roof trades, Carpenters, Landscapers, Cooks and coffee makers.
