From the President's Desk

Hi Members and Friends of the e-Club,

What a hectic time of the year but some great things are happening a lot of it Youth related which I think is awesome!   Let's start with the Regional Youth Transition Seminar (RYTS), we have two lovely applicants to attend this year. Ingrid has contacted the families and they are very excited to be going. Not to forget that our daughter Lauren and her partner Adam are "Red Shirts"/attendants for the camp. Not to give anything away but Lauren = Lego and Adam = PT (personal training). :-)
I am very pleased to say our joint exchange student Annelie will also be at the RYTS camp and then straight afterwards she will be attending the Inbounder/Outbounder Camp at Lennox Heads. It will give us our first opportunity to meet Annelie as she will stay with us on the Friday Night in between.

I would also like to welcome back Julian and the boys from Peru after quite an adventure. The trek seemed so much harder than their trip to India but we will have to wait until there presentation on November 25, 2014. They also received a great write-up in the DG's Tweed Torch available for a read on our website.

Our Rotary e-Club is very proud to say we have donated $250.00 to Independent Diabetes Kids Camps.   Here is a little bit about the camps:  Diabetes camps can be a very rewarding experience for many kids, however, sadly lots of kids miss out on the camp experience.  I will be running camps for kids aged between 3-12 and also for one parent to attend with them. This is a great experience for kids to see they are not alone and a great chance for parents to network and share experiences with other mums or dads who are in the same situation. The next camp will be held at Lady Northcote, Rowsley April 17-19th, 2015. Brooke McGowan-Grills is only 23 and was diagnosed at the age of six, she gave a great presentation to our Club and we are so happy to be able to help her and young children with Type 1 Diabetes. She has recently found out she has been nominated for the Casey Australia Day 2015 Awards. A very well deserved nomination.

President Geoff has been calling for Members who wish to take up position on the Board for next year, if you haven't put your 'hat in the ring' yet please do so as the deadline is fast approaching December 1, 2014.

Continuing on the e-Club's AGM (Annual General Meeting) is on December 2, 2014 all Members are welcome to come along and in fact we encourage you to do so. We also have a great Guest Speaker for that night from Orange Sky Laundry, if you are a Facebook fan as I am, you would have seen that these two young men have set up a mobile laundry for homeless people in Brisbane.

Have a fabulous week,
Rick
