Who can Volunteer

Anyone who wants to help, or visit the region, or is passing by and believes they would like to support the Flying Doctor and can do anything from fix a blind, trim branches, use a pressure hose, paint walls and ceilings, re-establish garden plants, fix plaster, plumbing and cabinetry, lay carpet or fetch cool drinks and help cater for the team is most welcome. Any voluntary work is very valuable.

Volunteers sign on for Insurance and record purposes, will need covered shoes and a happy caring respect for each other. We anticipate Rotarians, Partners and Friends and skilled Grey Nomads from around Australia. Youth is not essential but appreciated! Local Tafe Vocational Trainee attendance is being discussed. Bring your friends and travel with a purpose of helping our Flying Doctor Service.

Free Accommodation for Volunteers

Free to Volunteers you are offered to share a large 3 bedroom furnished, airconditioned Flying Doctor house in Madang Street.  It has a large rear verandah, large block and large back yard.

Fly in Volunteers will be met and transported as needed. Daily flights.

Caravanning Volunteers may stay at the AAOK Moondarra Caravan Park at a Rotary/RFDS rate of $50 weekly for a powered site. The keen young Managers (both Rotarians) will welcome and host you.

Low clearance vans may fit in the rear of Madang Street. You may tent here under a large tree.

Your Nutrition

Volunteers will provide their own food. We will regularly visit both the Rotary Clubs in Mt Isa and this may lead to BBQ’s and other forms of hosting and touring. The Moondarra Dam is just out of town, with Barramundi - which may be shared at camp! Regional scenery is spectacular.

Transport and materials supply.

All materials and tools will be provided by The Flying Doctor as needed. They are so appreciative of your support. Accounts have been established for supplies on a needs basis.

We have a local responsible Officer and a General Manager regularly visiting and always contactable.

A utility is available at all times.

Please bring any special tools you prefer to support your skills.

Daily work hours will be entirely up to daily agreement by the volunteers. It is a ‘come and go’ team effort.

Sightseeing, photography, visits including the RFDS offices, hanger and planes is available.

We would love to speak with you and your Club and have you join in this significant project helping an iconic Australian service.
